Fanfiction Recommendation: Beneath The Surface

When I read something good, I want the world to know. I'm not even done with the story and I'm amazed at how engaging it is. I started reading it as a WIP, devouring every chapter until I got to the end of the line and I was like ... NOOOOOOOOOO! I need more! Write faster! Write faster!

But, as I can attest to, good things come to those who wait.

Beneath the Surface by My-Bella and Eternally Addicted is about an internship that Bella applied for, working with Masen Marine Research (or MMR). They were spending the summer along the coast of South Africa, tagging and observing Great White Sharks, along with other marine wildlife in the area.

But, Bella had a secret that could possibly derail her time with MMR.

Instantly, I was drawn into Bella and Masen's attraction to each other, despite being mentor and mentee. Masen did have a tendency to overthink things and it drove me nuts, but it made their growing relationship that much more special. Masen was concerned about the integrity of his company and Bella possibly painting it in a poor light. Masen was an ass, at times, but he definitely made up for it, lavishing his kapu with his affection.

However, what makes this story so engaging is the banter between all of the characters, Gopher, Lee, Whit and Esme. They are all perpetual smart asses and I love the commentary. Gopher is in charge of maintaining the ship, the cook and comic relief. He's involved with Lee, who is in charge of the MMR website and taking various pictures and video of their research. You can find the MMR website here: Sharkward. Whit, the nudger, is the chief medical officer as well as researcher along with Masen. Edward Masen is the team leader, responsible for team of misfits, including Guppy, the intern.

My favorite character, hands down, has to be Esme. She is Masen's adoptive mother. Esme's sister, Elizabeth, died of cancer, leaving Edward in her care. She is a mother figure, nudger, voice of reason and just awesome. I love her conversations with Masen, giving him shit and showing her unending devotion to her Kid.

On the other side of the coin, there's Alice, Bella's sister. Up until this point, (I'm currently at chapter thirty-six), Alice has been a grade-A pain in the ass. She's immature and only thinks of herself, not her sister or the MMR team. I see very little possibility of redemption with Alice, but I still have twenty more chapters to go.

Take a chance with this story. I'm completely lost in it, reading it every waking hour and wishing I didn't need to sleep or eat so I could enjoy the story. Thank you to My-Bella and Eternally Addicted for sharing their talents with us and creating this fabulous world that is intriguing as much as it is educational.

Though, I'll stick with the pool ... Masen and his team can explore the oceans, Beneath the Surface.
