Blockbuster Update

Blockbuster Ch. 20 on FFn

Edward

With one more kiss, I helped her off the counter and we ate breakfast. Then, we tackled the turkey. Well, I did the heavy lifting while Bella dressed the turkey. It took the two of us an hour and a half to dress the turkey before putting it into the oven. “I’m going to shower,” Bella said. “I smell like butter and sage and raw poultry. Not a good combination.”

“When you’re done, I’ll do the same. I’m going to call my parents and wish them a Happy Thanksgiving,” I said.

Bella kissed me and walked toward the stairs. She stopped, looking back at me. “I love you, Edward. And, I know that you love me and that you’d never hurt me. Not like how Jacob did. I may not be ready for everything, but I want to try. Rose said that making love with someone who loves you can be magic.” She wiped her cheeks and smiled at me. “I want magic.”

Before I could respond, she turned on her heel and walked up the stairs.

Magic?

I could work with that.

Bella

I said that I loved Edward. In my heart, I knew it was the right thing. He’d given me the safety, protection, and support that I needed, that I desired. He was patient and kind. He was smart and ambitious. He was funny and silly, reminding me to have fun, especially while we were decorating my new home.

Let me tell you about the paint fight we had and the laughter we shared as our skin was a lovely shade of red, specifically ‘Heartthrob’ by Sherwin Williams, from when we painted my office. He got me on my shirt and arm while I rollered his face. I was slightly scared that he’d go off on me, but after laughing when he saw a glimpse of himself in a mirror, he owned that red paint.

What mattered the most was that he was a friend, listening to me when I raged, at Jacob, at Billy or at my history. He was my boyfriend, making me feel like a woman and not like a smattering of broken, shattered pieces. He loved to kiss and cuddle me, reminding me that I was worthy of that, of affection. He was a father-figure to my son, loving him unconditionally. It was his unconditional love for my son that solidified what I felt for him.

He accepted my son.

He accepted me, bruises, and all. He loved me, unconditionally. He may not have said it before now, but his actions showed it.

Every day.

I loved Edward. He loved me.

I was worthy of his love and giving my love in return.

Falling for a Dark Soul Update

In light of what's happening tomorrow (Election Day), I'm posting the update for #FallingForADarkSoul tonight. I may just hide out in my bunker tomorrow and write, ignoring social media until the nightmare is over.
So, here's an EARLY update for you.

FFn is being a whiny little bitch ... so here's the link for chapter eleven. Hopefully, chapter twelve will show up soon.

I was standing outside of my parents’ home. I was holding a bouquet for my mom and a bottle of Macallan’s for my dad. Sam was wriggling next to me, anxious to get some loving from his doggy grandparents. I rang the doorbell with my elbow. My father opened the door, giving me a smile. “You know, we’ve told you that you don’t need to ring the doorbell, Edward,” he chided. “This is and will always be your home.”

“Well, I did it for a reason. I had no free hands,” I said, handing him the bottle. “Happy Thanksgiving, Dad.”

“Thank you for this,” he laughed, taking the bottle and Sam’s leash. I stepped through the door, shifting the bouquet to my other arm as I took off my coat. “I was hoping to meet Bella today.”

“Mom told you?” I groaned.

“She said that you had met someone. Someone very special,” Carlisle shrugged but a smile ghosted over his lips. He put the bottle into the bar in the living room. He poured us both a glass, handing me one. “She also said that you were extending an invitation …”

“I did extend the invitation, but Bella and her sister are spending the holiday with one of my team leaders,” I explained. “Their plans were made over the weekend I came to visit Mom while you were working.” I pet Sam as I moved further into the house. “I am, however, going out with Bella tomorrow.”

“You are?” Esme asked, scurrying out of the kitchen and into foyer.

“Here, Mom. Flowers,” I grinned, thrusting the bouquet toward her.

“They’re lovely. You have a date?” she breathed, dragging me into the kitchen.

“Here we go,” Carlisle snorted, following us.

“Hush, Carlisle,” Esme chided, gently slapping his arm. “What are you doing? Where are you going? Are you bringing flowers?”

“Mom, you need to breathe,” I snickered. “I have things planned. Bella’s still new to the city. So, I wanted to show her around and immerse her in Chicago culture.”

“Well, what are you doing?” Esme asked.

“That’s for me to know and for Bella to find out,” I smirked.

“Are you going to take her out to eat?” Esme questioned. “What about her sister? Is Katie coming with you?”

“What I have planned would work if we have Katie with us, but I did express my hope that I wanted to spend time with just Bella,” I explained. “Regardless of who’s going, I know it will be a perfect day. Or, at least, that’s my hope.”

“Do you have a picture of Bella?” Carlisle asked. “I’ve heard a lot about her from your mom and I feel like I know her. But, she’s just a figment of my imagination.”

I pulled out my phone as my mother gave Sam his requisite treats from her. I showed him the picture from the Halloween party and the other one from when we spent the day cooking. “The little girl is Katie. She’s Bella sister.”

“They’re both beautiful,” Carlisle mused. “The picture from the party, you almost look like a family.”

“I wouldn’t go that far, Dad,” I sighed.

I practically floated back to my office. I sat down at my computer, pulling up the information about Fringe. Alice sat down next to me. “You look happy,” she said. “Did you and Edward have a good talk?”

“Interesting, really,” I chuckled. “He invited me over for Thanksgiving.”

“Aren’t you going to Sue’s house?” Alice asked. “At least, that’s what I thought since our lunch conversation.”

“I am. You heard me and Sue solidify our plans over lunch,” I answered. “Obviously, I’m spending time there, but Edward asked me out for a date the day after Thanksgiving.”

“And from that dreamy look in your eyes, you said yes?” Alice giggled. I blushed and nodded affirmatively. “Good. I think when we go out for lunch, we need to go shopping for a new outfit for your date. Something sexy, but yearning for him to want more. There’s some adorable things at …”

“Alice, I have more than enough clothes,” I snorted. “Besides, I need to call Monique to discuss her holiday campaign for her salon.”

“I’ll let you get to work. Do you have access to the files?”

I pressed a button on my computer and the file for Fringe was open on my desktop. “I’m good to go. Anything that I need to be aware of?”

“Nope. Monique is pretty awesome and one of the most easy-going clients we have,” Alice answered, getting up and picking up her tablet. “I’m off to the team leader meeting. Wish me luck.”

“Don’t fall asleep,” I snickered, picking up the phone. She rolled her eyes, ducking out of our shared office space. I dialed Monique and spent the better part of an hour going over ideas with her for their holiday campaign. I jotted down the ideas and set over some mock up designs for her perusal. Once I got her go-ahead, I’d create her designs and send them over for the launch of her holiday promotion.

When I got off the phone with her, I did some work on the New Moon designs and saw an email from Victoria. I checked the time, deciding to call her.

“Victoria Walter, New Moon Cosmetics,” she said when she picked up her line.

“Hello, Victoria. It’s Bella Swan from MAC,” I smiled. “I just got your email. How are things going for the PR packages?”

“Oh my word, things are moving so smoothly. Bella, you are truly a god-send,” Victoria breathed. “Your ideas are new and fresh! Our launch will not be as amazing without your influence!”

“I’m so glad,” I said. “When are you sending out the PR packages?”

“The week after Thanksgiving,” Victoria answered. “I’m also planning a launch party. You and your team are all obviously invited. So is Edward, since he’s the boss.”

“Wow! Thank you,” I smiled. I flipped through the calendar, seeing when New Moon’s launch was scheduled to the public. “When’s the party?”

“It’s scheduled the weekend before we launch,” Victoria said. “I know that this is in your purview, but I wanted to do it and invite you as guests, not as the advertising team. It’s a thank you for you. Black tie and nothing but the best … The invites are in the mail to the office.”

“I’m looking forward to it, Victoria,” I said, adding the launch party to our shared calendar. “It’s been such a pleasure working with you and I can’t wait to see what your company has planned next.”

“We do have our next product launch planned. We’re beta testing at the moment, but we should have some preliminary results soon, possibly by the party,” Victoria explained. “Now, there is a reason why I emailed you. I need your home address. You’ve been invaluable with everything you’ve created for the promotional materials and product launch.”

“I’m just doing my job, Victoria,” I grinned.

“Address,” she chided. “I won’t take no for an answer. You’ve dealt with my psychotic demands with grace and poise. You’ve made the launch of our new brand into something fun and meaningful. Please accept this, Bella.”

“Thank you,” I breathed and I gave her my home address.

“If I don’t talk to you before the holiday, I hope you have a great Thanksgiving,” Victoria said.

I noticed some small changes in the apartment. It seemed warmer, homier. I was pacing the length of the living room. Jake had texted Masen, explaining that they had picked up Alice and she was beaten up pretty badly. My fear was that she was raped. “Bella, she’s going to be okay,” Masen replied, taking me into his arms.

“What a cluster,” I grumbled. “You don’t have to stay, Masen.”

“I’m not going anywhere, cherie,” he said, taking my face into his hands. “I love you. You’re my family.”

“Even though my family is fucked up?” I snorted humorlessly.

“Every family is fucked up,” he smirked, kissing my nose. I slid my arms around his waist and snuggled into his embrace. The door opened and my dad struggled to stand. Masen helped him to his feet while Linda came out from the kitchen, her hands wringing in a towel. Jacob was helping Alice; whose face was a rainbow of colors.

“Fuck,” I spat, walking over to her and wrapping my arm around her waist. “Alice? You should be in the hospital.”

“No. No hospital,” she said, her voice muffled. “I’m okay, Bella.”

“Come on, Ali. Let’s get you cleaned up,” I sighed.

“I can do it myself,” she muttered. She moved away stubbornly, but I followed her into the bathroom. She removed her clothes and I saw some bruises on her back. “Bella, I’m fine.”

“Those black welts on your body indicates otherwise, Alice,” I argued. I waited on the toilet as Alice showered. She huffed in the shower. “I know we don’t have the best relationship, Alice, but I’m concerned. You’re covered in bruises and living in an abandoned building.”

“Dad kicked me out,” Alice said, pulling out a towel and wrapping it around her body behind the shower curtain. “He kicked me out because of you, Bella.” She stepped out of the shower and I could see more bruises on her thighs. “I wasn’t raped, Bella. I was pushed against a railing.” She held out her arms. “No track marks, either.”

“Will you stop with the wall? You called me, Alice. You asked for help and you got it. You’d think you’d be a little grateful,” I sighed. “Look, I’m worried. You were kicked out because of your actions, not living up to the expectations Dad gave you and stealing from your family. Not mine. I want us to have a relationship. I know that you’re …”

“Bella, I’m tired. I don’t want to do this now. I just want some pain killers and to sleep,” Alice grumbled.

“You may have a concussion, Alice,” I argued. “You shouldn’t sleep.”

“Maybe, in time, we can have a relationship. For now? I just need to sleep,” Alice said wearily. She walked to me, her grey eyes appraising me. “Thank you for helping me, Bella. I appreciate it.” She hugged me awkwardly before ducking out of the bathroom.

I huffed out a breath, tugging on my hair and glowering at the bathroom door, which was partially open. There was a quiet knock on the wooden door. “Yeah?”

Linda walked in, giving me a tender smile. “Alice is in her room.” She sat down at the edge of the tub. “What’s wrong, Bella?”

“Alice still blames me for …”

“She reached out, sweetie,” Linda murmured, taking my hand. “It’s a step in the right direction. I’m upset that she was hurt, but she’s here and she’s safe. From what Jacob said, Seth is working with the police department to find Jasper, but as far as we know, he’s in the wind.” She pressed a set of keys into my hands. “Go to my apartment. You and Masen can stay there. I know you want to stay close.”

I pinched my nose. Despite Grace’s well-written story of who she admired that made me cry like a baby last night, she was trying my last nerve this morning as we got ready for Thanksgiving weekend. “Grace, you need to pack a bag. Two outfits, pajamas, a pair of underwear and Wolfie. We’re not having costume changes on Thanksgiving, young lady.”

“But, what happens if something gets spilled on my dress, Mommy?” Grace asked.

“Then, we wipe you off and life goes on, baby girl,” I answered. I plucked out a pretty purple dress with some black leggings. “This with your booties, little one. We’re already running late. I told Nana Esme that we’d be at her house an hour ago. We’re still waiting for a mini fashionista to finish packing.” I shook my head, making my way up to my bedroom. I finished tossing in my clothes into a bag, along with my toiletry bag and a curling iron. “Edward?”

“Yes, sweetness?” he replied.

“Can you put our duffel into the car? I’m afraid I’ll fall down the stairs with it,” I snorted. I heard him jog up the stairs, a wry smirk on his face. “Admit it. It’s a distinct possibility.”

“This is true,” he chuckled, picking up the bag easily. “Did you put my uniform in there?”

I wrinkled my nose. “Yeah. It’s in there. You have to work tonight? An overnight?”

“I do, baby,” he said, kissing my nose. “It gives me the rest of the weekend to spend with my family. I’m not going to be out in the field due to my rib injury, but I’m manning the phones and possibly doing a few speed traps.”

“Or, in cop speak, take a nap?” I teased.

“Bingo. I’ll probably catch a nap after dinner, before I go in at nine. I’ll be home by nine the next morning, on Thanksgiving,” he said, kissing me sweetly and making his way down the stairs, with our bag slung over his shoulder.

I threw on a pair of shoes, tossing my hair into a ponytail and made my way to Grace’s room. She still wasn’t packed. “I swear, Grace,” I huffed, tossing her stuff into her bag. She grumbled as I zipped up her bag. “Sloths are faster than you today, baby girl. We’ve got to go.” My cell phone vibrated in my pocket with a text from my mother. “Grandma and Nana are anxious to see you, munchkin. Go get your coat on and get into the car.” I slid her smaller bag over my arm and picked up Wolfie and her iPad from its charger, stuffing it into the front pocket. I carefully walked down the stairs. John took the bag, hugging my waist and he ducked out of the front door, putting the bag into Edward’s SUV. Pulling on my coat and picking up an envelope stuffed with Thanksgiving favorite recipes, I went outside. Grace was strapped into her booster seat and John was helping Edward with the bags.

“Can you start the car, sweetness?” Edward asked. I nodded, twisting the key in the ignition. He and John fumbled in the back for a few moments before they both got into the car. “Ready?”

“Always,” I snickered. Edward put the car into reverse, backing out the driveway and making our way to his parents’ home. It was decided that Rose, the kids and I would spend the night at the house since both of our significant others were working overnight. I think that after the work was done, it would turn into a wedding planning session. The only thing we had planned was the church, which was more for Edward’s side of the family, not mine and the location of the reception. From brief discussions I had with my mom and conversations with Esme while we got our pedicures, we needed to get our asses in gear.

My wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses and tuxedos needed to be ordered.

We needed a color scheme, but nothing too clichéd or hokey. I refused to have a red wedding just because we’re getting married on Valentine’s Day.

Invitations needed to be ordered, flowers needed to be selected and …

The list went on and on. And to be honest, it was so freaking overwhelming.
