“According to Sinclair, the outer most parts of the Ark will most likely be where it breaks apart,” I said, reading off the tablet. “Take everything from these storage containers and bring them down to the promenade. These are medical supplies. They need to be tacked down to protect the contents inside.”

“Yes, Dr. Swan,” said Angela Weber. She held her baby in a sling, picking up a smaller container.

In the madness, I gave her baby a booster of its pain shot, along with the medications Bella had promised her. I was sitting on the floor, taking inventory of what we needed to take as opposed to what we wanted to take.

“Dr. Swan, we have some bins of extra clothing,” said a male voice. “Keep?”

“Yes, keep. We don’t know when or if we can make new clothes. Those can be brought to the dining hall,” I explained. “Thank you.”

“No problem, Dr. Swan,” he said, grabbing a few guys to carry the bins to the dining hall.

I worked for another hour until my communicator chimed from my pocket. Pulling it out, I saw a message from Charlie to meet him in the command center. I handed off my task to Alec, who had just come from a shift in medical and went to the command center. The surviving members of the council were already there, gathered around the center console with Sinclair. I walked over to the console, giving my husband a kiss on the cheek and nodding to the rest of the council. “When are we going to begin our descent?”

“We need one more orbit to line everything up. We’ll be landing about five miles from Mount Weather. At least, that’s where we project where we’ll land,” Sinclair explained, pointing on a map.

“And the Ark?” Charlie asked.

“After we disengage from the center ring, we’ll use thrusters to push us into the atmosphere. I’m not going to lie … it’s going to be a bumpy ride, but we’ll have control. I’ve linked the command center and the thrusters to a console in medical to allow me to pilot the Ark down to the ground. My main concern is, of course, where the Ark will break apart,” Sinclair frowned.

May We Meet Again Teaser

Hand in hand, we walked to the dining hall. The meal smelled delicious, making my stomach rumble. We smiled at the young people who had been in the sky box, the prison, as they greeted us. As much as I didn't want to be a leader, people were looking to us for guidance. I also some of the girls salivating over Edward. He must have noticed them. He moved to slide his arm around my waist, pressing his lips to my temple in a very public display of affection.

Hands off, girls. He's mine.

We got our meal, a delicious venison stew with some apple cobbler. It was a recipe found in the Mount Weather database and it was delectable. After we ate, we spoke to some people and listened to their concerns about the problems on the Ark. We also talked about possible solutions for our time in Mount Weather.

After those conversations, Edward and I settled at one of the tables with some hot apple cider with Rose and Emmett. "I don't know about you two, but I'm bushed," Rose yawned, leaning her cheek against Emmett's bicep. "The technology in here is old and in massive need of repair. Having it sit unattended for almost a century didn't help matters. The hydroelectric generators kept the vital systems going, but it needs a major overhaul."

"Long story short, my repair teams are going to have a lot of work to do," Emmett chuckled humorlessly. "As a result, I'm making a decision to not stay in the presidential race."

"Not chancellor?" Edward asked.

"The term chancellor is aligned with the Ark. We're not on the Ark. Not anymore," Emmett shrugged.

"President Cullen has a nice ring to it," Edward snickered.

"So does President Rosalie Hale," Rose grinned. "Or President Isabella Swan."

In medical, I was working alongside Carlisle to patch up and fix the survivors. Broken bones, lacerations and contusions flooded medical. There were a few severe injuries, which we monitored closely. To be honest, we didn't want to perform surgery when the gravity was on the fritz. The engineers, including my husband, were working to fix the Ark, but it was a fruitless endeavor.

It was beyond all repairs. Also, the computer engineers and security officers were trying to break Aro's encryption code, but it was a fruitless endeavor at the moment. We couldn't do anything until we had complete control of the Ark.

"Time of death," Carlisle muttered, closing Daniel Hale's eyes, "Thirteen twenty-five."

"Damn it," I sneered, shaking my head. "I thought he had a chance."

"A pulmonary embolus dislodged and traveled to his brain," Carlisle answered grimly. "It was a ticking time bomb, only a matter of …" He covered the body with a sheet.

Sighing, I walked over to Daniel, murmuring a prayer of peace and goodbye. His wife had died in the initial destruction of the Ark, thanks to the departure of the Exodus ship. Daniel, despite being battered and bruised, carried his shattered wife to medical, only to collapse in grief when we pronounced her dead. He never regained consciousness, joining her in eternal rest.

The lights flickered before coming on fully, along with all the computer consoles.

The comm system beeped and a voice filtered through the Ark. "This is Chief Engineer Sinclair. We've broken through encryption and have gained eighty-five percent control of what's remaining of the Ark. Chancellor Swan and Vice Chancellor Cullen, please report to the command center."

Bella was curled up, snuggled against Edward’s side. After an amazing night of exploration, teasing and touching, they fell asleep, sharing the rest of the bottle of wine. They fell asleep, unable to keep their hands to themselves. It was like they couldn’t stop touching every inch of bare skin. It wasn’t about orgasms or getting off, but about memorizing and building the intimacy they both craved.

It had been the most sensual Bella had experienced.

Edward tightened his hold on her, trailing his fingers along her spine. Her soft skin was the most exquisite thing he’d ever felt. “I could get used to this,” he said in a rumbly whisper.

“Sleeping almost naked?” she asked, yawning after she pressed a kiss to his chest.

“That’s a given,” he laughed. “But, sleeping with you. Holding you.” Blinking down at her, his heart gave a twist in his chest, seeing her doe eyes, soft with sleep and mussed hair from his hands along with their slumber. Yeah, he really could get used to waking up to her in his arms.

“Me, too,” she murmured, moving closer and pressing her bare breasts to his side. As she snuggled on his chest, she felt his stomach rumble. “Damn, do you have grizzly bears snarling from your belly?”

He barked a laugh, rolling them so he was above her. He nuzzled her neck and tickled her sides, just to hear her giggles. She squealed his name as his scruffy chin came in contact with the sensitive flesh behind her ear. “No grizzly bears,” he snickered. “But, I am hungry.” He pressed a soft kiss to her lips, blinking at his clock. “Wow, I’ve never slept this late.”

“Did I disrupt your training?” Bella asked, her face sobering.

“I’m taking this weekend off, love,” Edward said. “Charlie told me to relax.” He got up gracefully, far more graceful than any man should have just after waking up. “Do you want some breakfast?”

“I’d like some clothes,” she smirked, sitting up and clearly comfortable in her nudity. “My dress is nice, but not comfortable. I don’t mind having you see me like this, but the rest of the world? Not so much.”

“Damn,” he sighed. “You deny your beautiful body?”

“Now that this bridge has been crossed, you can have it any time you want. But, the rest of the world are pervs,” she laughed.

“Hmmmm, good to know,” he retorted, opening up a drawer and tossing her a t-shirt with a pair of workout shorts. He plucked out a pair for himself, sliding them up his legs. “Pancakes or waffles?”

Carlisle looked at me, taking off his surgical gear. “I’ll get Dr. Foster to come down here and help with the injuries,” he explained. “When you’re done, get Esme and join us in the command center. You’ve got about an hour or two until you get everyone here.”

“Go,” I urged, practically pushing him out the door.

He left and I worked with the nurses to treat the wounded. Alec came in with Esme with more injured. We worked together to help them, but we were quickly running out of medications and farm station, which held all of our medicinal herbs and such, was one of the casualties of Aro’s madness.

“Marcus to Carlisle and Charlie,” chirped our communicators. He sounded somewhat panicked. “It’s Aro …”

Charlie stepped back, pressing his communicator to his ear. “What about him? He’s caused enough damage to the Ark!”

“He’s not in his quarters,” Marcus hissed. “He had help and he’s gone.”

“Check the drop ship,” Charlie hissed. “He may be making a play for …”

Over the intercoms, Aro’s disembodied voice filled the promenade, “Too late, Chancellor. The Exodus ship is mine and if you want to live, join me. You have one hour. Anyone who wants to leave the Ark, and get away from Chancellor Swan’s lies …” A countdown flickered onto the screens.

Fifty-nine minutes, fifty-nine seconds … fifty-eight … fifty-seven …

“Is this for real?” I asked, stepping closer to my husband.

On his tablet, Charlie looked at his screen, trying to get verification. “It is. What’s worse is that the Exodus ship is still tethered to the Ark. All the lines are connected and, if he tries to leave, he will completely disable us.” He blinked at crowd, completely flummoxed. “We’ll be dead in the water.”

Carlisle jumped into action. “We need to disengage the umbilical lines to the Exodus ship. Go! Now!”

The promenade broke out into chaos. People ran off and I stood next to my husband, who was clearly at a loss. I noticed he was holding his stomach, breathing frantically. “Charlie? Talk to me.”

“We should have floated him. Now, he’s floating us all,” he whispered, looking at me starkly. “I’m so sorry, Ren … I can’t …” He grimaced.

“Not yet, Charlie,” I said, taking his pale, sweaty face into my hands. “We’ve got an hour. We can stop this. We have to …”

He slid his arms around my waist, pressing his lips to mine harshly. Taking my hand, we left the promenade, making our way to the command center. The security team was trying, fruitlessly, to get inside since Aro obviously got help to take control of the Exodus ship. He had people in the command center.

Or so we thought.
