Happy Anniversary

Ten years ago, I embarked on the journey to start writing fanfiction. I was obsessed with The Twilight Saga. I'd reread them more times than I could count. I was obsessed with the romance between Edward and Bella, wishing for something like that for myself. At that point in time, I was in a struggling marriage and trying to cope with less than ideal working situations.

I'd read fanfiction beginning that summer as I was recovering from ankle surgery. I was drawn into the world of Stephenie Meyer, but twisted and turned into something new and exciting. I loved reading about human Edward, vampire Bella, what happened during the time in between Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, and none of that fade-to-black shit.

I'm talking about juicy, raunchy citrus.

In December of 2010, I decided to dip my toe into the fanfiction world with my first-ever published story, La Cantante. I'd taken aspects of my life and put pen to paper. Or rather, fingers to computer keyboard.

The rest is ... as they say ... history.

Ten years later, I've written forty-eight stories, either writing on my own or collaborating with other authors (much love to Emotion Masen and Clo Rodeffer) all featuring our favorite characters, Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. Some were vamp-based. I've also tossed in witches, angels, fae, werewolves and my favorite, all-human.

With that being said, La Cantante holds a special place in my heart. It's where I got started. Is it a perfectly written story? Hell, no! Lots of drama and too much citrus, but it's where I got my start and I'm proud of it.

Fanfiction and the Twilight fandom has gotten me through so much in the past ten years. It helped me get over my divorce from my narcissistic ex-husband. With your support, I was able to grieve the loss of my mother from lung cancer. I made some of my closest friends, too. I'm so blessed to have you in all in my life. The love I have for my fandom family is immeasurable!

So, happy anniversary, La Cantante. If you'd like a blast from the past and take a stroll down nostalgia road ... here's a link to reread it.

Six Months Later

“Dr. Masen, we’ve got incoming,” said Lauren Mallory. She was a nurse at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. And a thorn in every male attending’s side.

“Thank you, Lauren, but with this signature, I’m off,” he said. “Dr. Novak is on duty this evening. I have a date with my wife.” Lauren scoffed and turned on her heel, presumably to find Dr. Novak. Dr. Masen went to the locker room and changed out of his scrubs, pulling on a pair of jeans and a button-down shirt. He scrubbed his hands in his hair before sliding on his sunglasses, picking up his car keys. Twirling them in his finger, he rubbed his wedding band on his left hand and made his way home. Using the hands-free option in his Audi SUV, he dialed home.

“Hello?” came the sweet voice of his wife.

“Hey love, I’m on my way home from the hospital. Are you ready to go?” he asked.

“I was thinking we could spend the night at home, Doc,” she said.

“Beautiful, you know what your therapist said,” he chided. “You can’t just stay cooped up in our house.”

“Please? I promise I have a good reason,” she wheedled. “I want to talk to you, about … um, stuff.”

“Very specific, love,” he deadpanned. “Do you want me to pick up dinner?”

“No. I made us dinner. I’ll be out on the lanai,” she smiled. “Love you.”

“Love you more,” he breathed, getting onto the highway and driving the half hour back to his large home he shared with his gorgeous wife. Backing his SUV into the garage, he made his way inside and he grinned as he smelled his favorite meal being made. “Honey, I’m home.”

“Oh, don’t even start.”

Married to the Mob Teaser

“Why are we all taking separate limos?” I asked as we drove the hotel where the benefit was being held. “And who’s protecting us?”

“Jasper is technically working tonight, but Jacob is driving the limo for us,” Edward explained, his arm draped casually over my shoulders. “However, Jasper, since he’s family is going into the benefit as a guest, but he’s armed to the teeth.”

“And you?” I asked, arching a brow. He returned my look, crossing his leg and showing me an ankle harness. It had gun strapped just above his shoe. He also showed me another harness on his other leg which held a hunting knife. “Damn,” I laughed anxiously. “Do you think something would happen?”

“Unlikely,” he shrugged, covering his weapons and pulling me closer, his lips finding the spot behind my ear that made me swoon and melt against him. Whenever he kissed me there, I needed new damn panties. “You smell so good, dolce. Almost good enough to eat.” He picked up my hand and ran his thumb over the engagement ring on my finger. “Bella, dolce, I think you should be wary of Rose.”

“Believe me. I already am,” I snorted. “She was downright mean at the fitting. But, she did bring up something that raised some red flags for me. Who are the Denali sisters?”

“Three fucking mistakes,” Edward sighed, scrubbing his face. “Bella, I’m not going to lie to you and say that I was a monk. I wasn’t. Far from it. I never had relationships. Up until I met you, I saw relationships as weaknesses. Another way for someone to fuck with you. So, my history with women was to use them for one thing only. And it wasn’t for relationships. It was for fucking. Plain and simple.” He frowned, twining our fingers together. “You said it yourself. I’m a cold-hearted killer. I was a bastard. Fuck, I’m still a bastard.”

“Your parents are clearly still married and madly in love with each other,” I said, poking his side and trying to lighten the mood.

“You know what I mean,” he deadpanned, rolling his eyes. “However, since I’ve met you, I haven’t been with anyone. I don’t want to be with anyone but you.” He blushed and held me closer. “Cara, full disclosure, I’m clean. Alice performed a test and made sure that I was … that my past didn’t come back to kick me in the ass.”

“Alice told me,” I replied. “She told me after I asked about birth control. She put me on the shot and it’ll be effective in a couple of days. I want you, too, Edward.” He relaxed next to me and he cupped my chin, brushing his mouth over mine. He sighed, his forehead pressed to mine. “Will these Denali sisters be at the benefit?”

“Probably. Their father, Eleazar Denali, is an alderman and is considering running for mayor,” Edward explained. “They’re also distantly related to The Volturi Crime Syndicate.”

“Aren’t they your enemy?” I asked.

“Yeah, but Eleazar and his family are more aligned to our way of thinking than with the Volturi,” Edward murmured. “I know that Eleazar would probably love for me to be his son-in-law, but his daughters … they are … well, they’re sluts. They’ve been passed around so many times and I’m ashamed to be even be one of the men that they’ve slept with. Though, very little sleeping is involved.”

“I don’t need details,” I grumbled.

“Sorry,” he frowned. “I’ve made my mistakes and I vow to you, that I won’t repeat them. I’m loyal, almost to a fault. You have to trust me that I won’t hurt you. I lo-care for you tremendously. I don’t want to lose you.” I blushed, biting my lip. He chuckled, removing it with his thumb. “You’ll make yourself bleed, cara. And besides, I want to be the one who bites your lip.”
