“Gloves, mouth guard, water bottle, ID,” Edward mumbled as he packed his bag. “Trunks? I need trunks.”

“In our haste, I forgot to give you the trunks,” Bella said, scurrying over to him. She was in a pair of jeans and one of his button downs for before the fight. She’d change into a black cocktail dress with sky-high heels for actual event. “Here, Edward. You have to wear our colors, baby.”

She handed him a box with the Bull Dog logo etched on top. He placed the box on the bed, opening it and grinning. Inside was a pair of deep purple trunks, with matching compression shorts for underneath. Under the trunks was a bright red robe with the Bull Dog logo on the back and his name spelled above his heart. “Wow … this is awesome! Thank you, angel.”

“Looks much better than the Volterra colors,” she said, taking the trunks and placing them in his bag. Turning and taking his hands, she smiled up at him. “You are going to kick so much ass, Edward. I’m proud of you and I love you so much.”

He leaned forward, pressing his forehead to hers. “I love you, Bella. I couldn’t have done this without you or without your dad. I’m so afraid that he’s pissed that I’m retiring.”

“He’s not, baby. He gets it,” Bella vowed, playing with his hair at the nape of his neck. “Don’t think about that. Think about the fight.”

Charlie barged into the room, scowling. “Tick tock, Masen. We’ve got to be at weigh-in …”

“I was just giving Edward the trunks,” Bella retorted, scowling right back at her father. “Yeesh, Dad. Calm your tits.”

“Sorry, Little Bells, but we’ve got to go. The limo’s here,” Charlie said.

Worth the Fight Teaser

“It’s starting again,” Jasper said, pointing to the television. “James appears to be in better shape.”

Edward frowned, holding Bella’s hand as he watched the fight continue. James played defense, only taking a few punches. He mainly blocked Emmett’s blows. The fight continued along this vein until the second to the last round. Emmett was getting tired, but still put everything into the fight. When the bell indicated the end of the round, James flew at Emmett and rapidly hitting him in the head. Emmett fell onto the ground, clearly unconscious. The bell rang consistently as Charlie and Caius moved to pull James off Emmett.

“Bells, why did he do that?” Rose asked, her voice sounding hysterical. “Why did he attack my monkey man after the round was over?”

“I don’t know, Rose,” Bella said, moving to crouch in front of Rosalie.

“Oh, fuck! He’s seizing!” Charlie growled on the television.

“Bella!” Rose cried, gripping Bella’s arms. Her face was contorted in anguish, terror. “I need to get to Emmett!”

“We’ll get us there,” Bella whispered quietly, gesturing for someone to turn off the television. She handed Edward her phone. “On my phone, there’s a number for … a private charter company.”

“Bensen Aviation?” Edward asked, arching a brow as he scrolled through her contacts.

“Make arrangements for Rose, Alice and me to fly to Portland,” she pleaded, hugging her hysterical friend who was inconsolable.

“I want to go, too. You may need legal representation,” Jasper growled. “I can be the spokesperson for the gym.”

Edward nodded, stepping out of the family room, which had been filled with a cacophony of sounds – mainly of shock and anger. He made arrangements for Bella, Rose, Alice, and Jasper to fly up to Portland. The pilot, a close friend of Charlie’s, waived the cost of the private charter and promised wheels up in an hour.

Bella was curled up, snuggled against Edward’s side. After an amazing night of exploration, teasing and touching, they fell asleep, sharing the rest of the bottle of wine. They fell asleep, unable to keep their hands to themselves. It was like they couldn’t stop touching every inch of bare skin. It wasn’t about orgasms or getting off, but about memorizing and building the intimacy they both craved.

It had been the most sensual Bella had experienced.

Edward tightened his hold on her, trailing his fingers along her spine. Her soft skin was the most exquisite thing he’d ever felt. “I could get used to this,” he said in a rumbly whisper.

“Sleeping almost naked?” she asked, yawning after she pressed a kiss to his chest.

“That’s a given,” he laughed. “But, sleeping with you. Holding you.” Blinking down at her, his heart gave a twist in his chest, seeing her doe eyes, soft with sleep and mussed hair from his hands along with their slumber. Yeah, he really could get used to waking up to her in his arms.

“Me, too,” she murmured, moving closer and pressing her bare breasts to his side. As she snuggled on his chest, she felt his stomach rumble. “Damn, do you have grizzly bears snarling from your belly?”

He barked a laugh, rolling them so he was above her. He nuzzled her neck and tickled her sides, just to hear her giggles. She squealed his name as his scruffy chin came in contact with the sensitive flesh behind her ear. “No grizzly bears,” he snickered. “But, I am hungry.” He pressed a soft kiss to her lips, blinking at his clock. “Wow, I’ve never slept this late.”

“Did I disrupt your training?” Bella asked, her face sobering.

“I’m taking this weekend off, love,” Edward said. “Charlie told me to relax.” He got up gracefully, far more graceful than any man should have just after waking up. “Do you want some breakfast?”

“I’d like some clothes,” she smirked, sitting up and clearly comfortable in her nudity. “My dress is nice, but not comfortable. I don’t mind having you see me like this, but the rest of the world? Not so much.”

“Damn,” he sighed. “You deny your beautiful body?”

“Now that this bridge has been crossed, you can have it any time you want. But, the rest of the world are pervs,” she laughed.

“Hmmmm, good to know,” he retorted, opening up a drawer and tossing her a t-shirt with a pair of workout shorts. He plucked out a pair for himself, sliding them up his legs. “Pancakes or waffles?”

I ran in the darkness, soaked to the skin from the deluge that rained down on us. I had my gun at the ready. I heard some harsh comments in Spanish. Men were gathering near the side entrance of the warehouse. I heard them give an order to kill anyone approaching the warehouse. I didn’t give them a chance to carry out those orders. With silent hand signs, I ordered my own men to kill them.

Six men fell into a mud puddle. They never even saw us coming.

“They looked as high as a kite,” Felix grumbled, pushing one of the bodies onto its back.

“Probably, because they are,” I snorted, replacing my clip. “Eyes open. No one walks out of here alive except my wife.” We plastered ourselves to the wall, making our way to the door. Just as I was going to open the door, more of Ricardo’s men poured out of it. They didn’t even get a chance to react to our presence. They were picked off quickly, blocking the door as they fell to their death, cut down with the bullets from our guns.

We pushed our way into the warehouse. It was dark and dingy with the distinct odor of cocaine, with an undercurrent of body odor and terror. It was flowery and metallic with a chemical burn to our nostrils. Bricks of it were stacked, marked with a modified brand mark of Los Muertos. This appeared to be a home base for the newly allied gangs.

“Boss, should we …?” Felix asked, blinking to the drug stash. I knew he wanted to take it into our possession, using it to pad our wallets. Any other time, I’d agree to seizing the drugs but we had other things to attend to. Now was not the time to focus on profits. My wife was out there. She needed me. I needed her. Charlie needed his mother.

Period.

“No,” I answered curtly. “Our focus is Bella. We need to find her and recover her.” I shook my head. “If I had my way, this place would go up in smoke.”

Over my earpiece, my father chimed in, “We entered the building at the rear. We have about ten DOA’s.”

“Did you see Ricardo? Renee?” I asked.

“No,” he responded. “This building is easily the size of three football fields.”

“More like five,” Esteban grunted. “This used to be a hub for Los Muertos. A processing station for …” He trailed off as he made the shape of a woman with his hands. It indicated that it was a stop for their human trafficking ring. “It’s also used as storage for drugs and weaponry before distribution. Lots of locked rooms.”

“God damn it,” I snapped, looking to the right and trying to see if there were any approaching men. “Partner up and spread out. Kill anyone you see.” I blinked to Jasper. He nodded and we separated from Felix, Emmett and Esteban’s team. On our phones, Felipe had sent an infrared overview of the warehouse. Jasper turned off his earpiece and told me to do the same. “What, Jas?”

“I don’t trust Esteban or this alliance. This place is too big and too obvious for Renee and Ricardo,” Jasper said, his voice tense.

“I agree, but it’s the only lead we have at this point,” I muttered.

“Alice, if you need anything, please don’t hesitate to let me know,” I said as I gave her some tea. Her face was bruised and she was moving stiffly.

“I just want to be alone, Bella,” she said, her voice cold, angry.

“Okay,” I whispered. I left the room, closing the door and leaning heavily against the wall. I could hear Esme speaking to Demetri, Jimmy and Felix in the kitchen. It was after nine at night and I hadn’t heard from Edward in several hours. With a sigh, I went downstairs. “Do you guys want anything to eat? I need to do something.”

“Don’t worry, Miss Bella,” Demetri said, his voice quiet and slightly accented. It sounded Russian.

“My fiancée is doing mobby things and I’ve got Alice upstairs who is afraid of her own shadow,” I said. “Something happened. Either I can perseverate on what happened or I can bake something. Anyone want rum cake?”

“Bella, you are too funny,” Esme snorted.

“I’m not kidding,” I smirked as I went into our well-stocked pantry and pulled out what I needed. “Felix, in the bar near you, there’s a bottle of Captain Morgan’s Extra Dark Rum. Can you get that for me?”

“Sure, Miss Bella,” he said. He handed me the bottle and I started working.

“I can also feed you guys something, other than sweets,” I said. “I left over vodka sauce. I raided Nonni’s recipe book to make dinner last night.”

“With gnocchi?” Jimmy asked. I nodded. “Well, if you boys don’t want any. I do.”

“Jimmy, your ass is going to be the size of Wrigley Field,” I quipped, making him a plate. Felix and Demetri also took some as well, along with some Italian sausage I’d baked. Esme made some salad for them and as I was putting the cake into the oven, Edward and Jasper came inside. “Is everything okay?”

Edward nodded tightly.

“Where’s Alice?” Jasper asked.

“Guest room, second door on your left,” I answered. Jasper smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. He shifted a bag in his hand and he jogged up the stairs.

“Can I go home now?” Esme asked. “I love spending time with my newest daughter, but …”

“Dad sent a text. You’re staying here tonight. As are you guys,” Edward said, looking at Felix and Demetri.

“What about me?” Jimmy questioned. “How am I supposed to get up the stairs?”

“We’ll spend time on the couches, Uncle Jimmy. I’ll stay with you,” I answered. “It’s a lot more comfortable than that shitty couch you have at your apartment. Dude, that thing is so ugly.”

“Don’t be hating on my couch, Isabella Marie,” he groused. He made a face as he rolled his way to the bathroom. Edward followed at a discreet distance, but when Jimmy was safely ensconced in the powder room, my fiancé walked back to the kitchen.

“Why can’t I go home?” Esme asked.

“Dad, Emmett and Jake are taking care of a cleanup job,” Edward explained.

“And what happened?” I pressed.

“I’ll tell both of you tomorrow. I promise, but we have to stay on the DL with Jimmy in the house. I love the guy, but he can’t know what happened or what we did,” Edward said, his voice hard and cold, sounding very much like the mob boss he’d become in a few short months.

“It’s bad?” Esme sighed.

“As bad as it can get,” Edward replied, scrubbing his face.
