The fire was burning in the fireplace with some quiet instrumental holiday music playing in the background. Edward was hanging some décor over the fireplace, giant bells and straightening them, trying not to let them all clang. Bella was carefully unwrapping ornaments, hanging them on her rustically, but elegantly appointed tree. It had been put up hastily, but not decorated due to the craziness of their schedules.

"Will it snow?" Edward asked. "Not like Chicago has had white Christmases recently, but I do like the idea of the white fluffy stuff on the ground for Christmas."

"More like a sleety, mushy, snowy mess," Bella answered, wrinkling her nose. "In the higher elevations, they get snow. With our location, we get more sleet. Though when I was thirteen, we had a huge snowstorm. We were stuck at Bull Dog for three days. The plows couldn't get out."

"Three days at the gym. Sounds like fun," Edward deadpanned.

"We had everything we needed. Showers, a kitchen, food, and entertainment," Bella quipped. "The only thing that sucked was that I was the only girl. The guys were rank where I came out smelling like a proverbial rose. Even my dad reverted back to his baser, male instincts. I made Carlisle pick me up and I stayed with them until my dad realized that he smelled like a foot."

"Gross!" Edward laughed. "I mean, all guys go through that phase, but a grown man?"

"Yep," Bella said, standing up and wiping her hands on her jeans.

Worth the Fight Teaser

God, it had been so long for both of them.

“I think … we need to go back to the hotel,” Bella squeaked as Edward’s hand inched closer to her center. “I … I need a cold shower and a fresh pair of panties.”

“I’ve been hard most of lunch,” Edward growled, tossing some cash on the table. “I need more than a cold shower. We have a date with our bed …”

“Oooh, yes and please,” Bella breathed. Edward grabbed her hand, twining their fingers together and practically dragging her back to his car.

Show time!

The drive back to the hotel was torturous. The restaurant was near the hotel, but traffic was bumper to bumper. It took them twenty minutes to get to the hotel, using the valet to park the Volvo. In the lobby, they walked with a purpose to the bank of elevators only to be stymied by Alice and Jasper. “Hey guys, we’re heading out get a late lunch. Want to join?” Alice asked.

Edward pulled Bella in front of him, presumably to hide his erection or to taunt her with each slow pass of his hips. “Thanks for the offer, Alice, but we just came from lunch,” Bella responded breathily. “I have a migraine and we’re going to lay down before heading back to the hospital.”

“Okay,” Alice nodded. “I hope you feel better.” She hugged Bella, leaving with Jasper.

Bella watched them leave the hotel, grabbing Edward’s hand and pulling him into an open elevator car. Once the doors closed, Edward bent down and kissed the hell out of Bella. He easily picked her up, pinning her against the wall of the lift. Teeth clashed, tongued tangled and Bella’s hands pulled on Edward’s hair.

“Mommy? Why is that man sucking that lady’s face?” came a young voice.

In medical, I was working alongside Carlisle to patch up and fix the survivors. Broken bones, lacerations and contusions flooded medical. There were a few severe injuries, which we monitored closely. To be honest, we didn't want to perform surgery when the gravity was on the fritz. The engineers, including my husband, were working to fix the Ark, but it was a fruitless endeavor.

It was beyond all repairs. Also, the computer engineers and security officers were trying to break Aro's encryption code, but it was a fruitless endeavor at the moment. We couldn't do anything until we had complete control of the Ark.

"Time of death," Carlisle muttered, closing Daniel Hale's eyes, "Thirteen twenty-five."

"Damn it," I sneered, shaking my head. "I thought he had a chance."

"A pulmonary embolus dislodged and traveled to his brain," Carlisle answered grimly. "It was a ticking time bomb, only a matter of …" He covered the body with a sheet.

Sighing, I walked over to Daniel, murmuring a prayer of peace and goodbye. His wife had died in the initial destruction of the Ark, thanks to the departure of the Exodus ship. Daniel, despite being battered and bruised, carried his shattered wife to medical, only to collapse in grief when we pronounced her dead. He never regained consciousness, joining her in eternal rest.

The lights flickered before coming on fully, along with all the computer consoles.

The comm system beeped and a voice filtered through the Ark. "This is Chief Engineer Sinclair. We've broken through encryption and have gained eighty-five percent control of what's remaining of the Ark. Chancellor Swan and Vice Chancellor Cullen, please report to the command center."

“Alright, Hells Bells,” Rose said. “You’ve graduated from physical therapy and you’re free to start working out again. Your leg is all good to go.”

“Thank goodness I didn’t need surgery,” Bella grumbled, pulling on her sneakers. “I hate relying on people to help me out.”

“That’s because you’re too stubborn accept any help, bitch,” Rose laughed, tossing a clean towel at her friend as she laid her hand on her barely-there bump. “Though, you accepted Edward Masen’s help. What’s going on there?”

“We’re rebuilding our friendship. I’m trying to prove to him that I’m not a flake like my mom,” Bella frowned, shrugging her shoulders dejectedly. I’m also trying to prove it to myself that I’m capable of letting down my walls.

“You’re not a flake. You were hurt by that douche-canoe, Jacob. And, don’t get me started on that bitch … your incubator,” Rose argued with her lips pressed into a thin line. “Speaking of which, I heard some rumors about Jake, the snake. There may be trouble in paradise with his partnership with the Volturi.”

“I don’t want to hear it, Rosalie,” Bella said, hopping off the table in the gym of Bull Dog. “He’s no longer my concern. Now, I’m going to make sure that Emmett, Peter, and Wilson have their paperwork for the fight this weekend in Portland.”

“Is Edward fighting?” Rose asked.

“He’s still not up to his fighting weight,” Bella replied. “He’s got about ten pounds to go. My dad wants him to be at that weight solidly for a month before he’s entered into a fight.” She hugged her friend. “Thanks for your help, Rose. I’m going to get the paperwork done and finalize travel plans for the team.”

“Who’s going to train with Masen if your dad is going with Emmett and the boys?” Rose asked, waggling her brows.

“We’ll see,” Bella snorted, rolling her eyes. “Go check out your brother-in-law. Jasper looks like he took a shot to the face.”

“Oh, hell,” Rose grumbled. “What did you do, Jas?”

“Your husband used my face as a punching bag. That’s what I did,” Jasper replied, his voice sounding stuffy.

“Emmett McCarty Cullen, you outweigh Jasper by over seventy pounds. What the hell were you thinking?” Rose yelled at her husband, who was now in the ring with Peter.

“I can’t help that Jasper’s face got in the way of my fist?” Emmett snickered.

“Oh, for fuck’s sake,” Rose moaned, rolling her eyes while she dragged Jasper into a treatment room.

Charlie's Home

Edward walked back out of the house, trying not to think too much about the brush off he’d received from Bella. She was coldly polite, but that connection they’d shared had disappeared. He wanted it back, but was resigned that she’d be in the periphery of his life, moving forward.

“Masen! I need another beer. Grilling all this meat is making me thirsty,” Emmett bellowed.

“You’re meeting me tomorrow morning, Emmett,” Charlie chided as he tossed a beanbag, playing cornhole with Carlisle and a few other fighters. “I don’t want you to be hungover.”

“I’ll be fine,” Emmett said. “This is my second beer. I’ll stop after four. I promise.”

“Why am I your beer wench?” Edward snorted. “Jasper is perfectly capable, as are you, Emmett. I could watch the meat while you get your own beverage.”

“Oooh, he has a point, Tubbo,” Jasper sang. “I think I like you, Edward. You’re my new bestie. Slacker, over there, can just suffer in the smoke.”

With a scowl, Emmett handed Edward the tongs and stomped into the house. Edward laughed, flipping over the burgers, and sipping his water. As he manned the grill, an older woman with curled honey hair and a pleasant smile glided into the party with a younger woman next to her. The younger woman was striking with pale skin, dark brown hair, and icy blue eyes. Carlisle kissed the older woman, hugging the younger one. With a grin, Carlisle brought the pair over to Jasper, Edward, and the now grumpy Emmett.

“Esme, I’d love to introduce you to the newest fighter to the Bull Dog family, Edward Masen,” Carlisle smiled. “Edward, this is my wife and light of my life, Esme Cullen.”

“Don’t let Alice hear you say that,” Jasper quipped. “She thinks she’s the light of your life.”

“I love my daughter, but she’s the reason why I have these grey hairs,” Carlisle snorted. “Devil spawn.”

“Emmett didn’t help, either,” Esme teased, ruffling his curls.

“I’m amazing,” Emmett argued. “Alice was the devil spawn … trying to get out from the shadow of my awesomeness.”

“You keep telling yourself that, kiddo,” Carlisle laughed. “How are you doing, Bree? Settling into Seattle?”

“Different than Alaska, but I like it,” the younger woman smiled.

“Edward, this is my niece, Bree Tanner. She’s my youngest sister’s only child and moved here to start her career as a physical therapist. She’ll be working with Rosalie in her practice,” Esme explained. “Edward, from what I’ve been told, is also a newcomer to the Pacific Northwest, moving here from Chicago.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” Edward said, shaking her hand. Bree looked at him hungrily, either enamored by his looks or his celebrity. Regardless of her perusal, it made him uncomfortable.

“Maybe you can give me a tour. We could possibly explore the city together?” Bree suggested, moving closer to him, and running her hand along his forearm.

“I’m just getting back into training and I’m hitting the ground running after an appointment tomorrow. My days will be spent in the gym,” Edward replied politely. He saw something out of the corner of his eyes. Bella seemed agitated, stomping away.
