Bella was curled up, snuggled against Edward’s side. After an amazing night of exploration, teasing and touching, they fell asleep, sharing the rest of the bottle of wine. They fell asleep, unable to keep their hands to themselves. It was like they couldn’t stop touching every inch of bare skin. It wasn’t about orgasms or getting off, but about memorizing and building the intimacy they both craved.

It had been the most sensual Bella had experienced.

Edward tightened his hold on her, trailing his fingers along her spine. Her soft skin was the most exquisite thing he’d ever felt. “I could get used to this,” he said in a rumbly whisper.

“Sleeping almost naked?” she asked, yawning after she pressed a kiss to his chest.

“That’s a given,” he laughed. “But, sleeping with you. Holding you.” Blinking down at her, his heart gave a twist in his chest, seeing her doe eyes, soft with sleep and mussed hair from his hands along with their slumber. Yeah, he really could get used to waking up to her in his arms.

“Me, too,” she murmured, moving closer and pressing her bare breasts to his side. As she snuggled on his chest, she felt his stomach rumble. “Damn, do you have grizzly bears snarling from your belly?”

He barked a laugh, rolling them so he was above her. He nuzzled her neck and tickled her sides, just to hear her giggles. She squealed his name as his scruffy chin came in contact with the sensitive flesh behind her ear. “No grizzly bears,” he snickered. “But, I am hungry.” He pressed a soft kiss to her lips, blinking at his clock. “Wow, I’ve never slept this late.”

“Did I disrupt your training?” Bella asked, her face sobering.

“I’m taking this weekend off, love,” Edward said. “Charlie told me to relax.” He got up gracefully, far more graceful than any man should have just after waking up. “Do you want some breakfast?”

“I’d like some clothes,” she smirked, sitting up and clearly comfortable in her nudity. “My dress is nice, but not comfortable. I don’t mind having you see me like this, but the rest of the world? Not so much.”

“Damn,” he sighed. “You deny your beautiful body?”

“Now that this bridge has been crossed, you can have it any time you want. But, the rest of the world are pervs,” she laughed.

“Hmmmm, good to know,” he retorted, opening up a drawer and tossing her a t-shirt with a pair of workout shorts. He plucked out a pair for himself, sliding them up his legs. “Pancakes or waffles?”

May We Meet Again Teaser

Early the next morning, Emmett, Rosalie, Lauren, and Tyler packed up the rover to head back to Mount Weather to track the hurricane. Edward went to tell Alice that she was going with them so she could be safe from the weather, riding with Jasper. Eric and Mike were rounding out the group, heading back to Mount Weather.

I was sorting through provisions in case we needed to hole up in the drop ship for the storm. I was also beginning to pack up the supplies that The Ark had sent down with us. Mainly, it was medical supplies and equipment that would be compatible with the items in their medical bay. But, their batteries hadn’t been fried. I would have an actual state-of-the-art hospital, complete with x-ray machines, defibrillators, and anything else a doctor could possibly ever need.

Rose walked into the drop ship, plopping down next to me. “It’s been too long since we’ve had a chat. I noticed that you and Cullen are buddy-buddy,” she said bluntly. “Are you bumping uglies?” She gave me a grin, arching her brow.

“Really?” I deadpanned.

“Come on! You and Cullen were holding hands and acting all coupl-y,” she said. “Are you and Cullen a thing?”

“If you mean together? Yes, we are,” I blushed, closing the bins with the medical equipment.

“Are you with him out of guilt or are you really with him?” Rose pressed.

“We’ve always had this adversarial relationship. Don’t get me wrong, we were far from close on the Ark. We mingled together because of our families, but we never took the time to get to know each other. He thought I was entitled, and I thought he was a jerk. When in reality, we are very similar. We were too stubborn to see it.”

“But, he threw you in jail,” Rose snorted.

“He’s also the one who got us to the ground. With my mother’s help, of course,” I replied. “We talked about that the first night away from camp. He apologized and together, we’re moving forward. Will it be all warm fuzzies? Probably not, but he’s been here for me since he caught us trying to help Angela and her baby. He transferred to the prison to protect us. Pike and his cronies were as corrupt as the day is long.”

“Emmett told me a little bit,” Rose muttered. “Halsted had a hard on for you and was …”

“Yeah,” I gulped. “That’s why Edward worked his ass off to get us down here, Rose.”

“So, have you and Edward …” she trailed off, looking at me expectantly.

“No, Rosalie. It’s not like we’ve had any time by ourselves. We’ve kissed, made out a lot,” I blushed.

“Any gropage? Pleasure?” Rose purred. My face flamed. “I take that as a no.”

“Rose, I’m … I’ve never done that,” I admitted. “You know … had sex.”

“You are on contraception, right?” Rose asked.

“As soon as I hit twenty, I had an implant placed,” I answered. “It’s good for five years.”

In the two weeks since their return from Vegas, Bella hadn’t left her house except to pick up groceries. She’d made plans with Rose and Alice, but bugged out of them since she was in a funk. Jacob had been her constant companion for three years … well, more like two and a half years … the past six months he’d been pretty absent.

Absent because he was fucking anything with tits, and making some very, very poor choices.

Jacob’s drug test did come up positive for cocaine, LSD and some performance enhancement drugs. With that, Charlie released him from his contract and said he was no longer welcome at Bull Dog MMA Fight Club. Sam Uley was also fired since he’d provided Jacob with the steroids.

Hearing that and knowing the truth, Bella gave herself some time to grieve the loss of her relationship. But, she was in such a funk. How had she missed this?

There was a large thump on her door. “Bitch, open up!” Rose bellowed. “No more wallowing!”

“Leave me alone,” Bella grumbled under her breath. She stomped to the front door, scowling at the unwelcome porch dwellers. “What?”

Alice, a petite woman with short brown hair and the most unique golden eyes, gave her friend a sympathetic smile. “We’ve given you time, but you’ve got to come back to the land of the living,” Alice said.

“And shower,” Rose said, pushing into the house, carrying several grocery bags. “Girl, you stink.”

I was spacing out, standing in the kitchen. My son was at school. It was the last day before winter break and over those two weeks off, Seth and I were packing up what we weren’t using in the house, preparing it to be put on the market. It was still decorated for the holidays, with Bear taking his usual spot underneath the Christmas tree, snoring loudly. Our dog definitely thought he was a present, but it made for some adorable pictures on my phone.

Today, I knew that Edward was giving our victim impact statement today and Jacob would be sentenced. I was trying not to think about it. Jacob needed to be placed firmly in my past and with Edward’s statement made on our behalf would hopefully do that. So, I was working in the kitchen to focus my attention on anything other than the monster who’d made my life hell for years.

“Knock, knock,” came the deep voice of Emmett.

“In the kitchen,” I replied. Bear woofed lowly, wiggling his butt when he saw my friend and adoptive older brother. Emmett tossed him a treat from his pocket, sauntering inside. “Shouldn’t you be with your wife, babyproofing your house?”

“Rose and Jasper’s parents are over and well, we don’t get along,” Emmett shuddered. “Too judgmental and all that shit. So, Jasper is there playing referee and babysitting his sister because if I’d stayed, I’d send Rosie into early labor or would have knocked my father-in-law into next Tuesday.”

“Yeah, don’t do that,” I snickered.

“I also wanted to check on you. How are you doing? Jacob is being sentenced today,” Emmett murmured, putting the full box into the living room. “Are you okay?”

I wrapped up my mugs, just to give my hands something to do. “For the most part, I’m okay. I’ve been talking a lot to my Edward and Caius, trying to come to grips with all that he did to me, to all of us. Yes, I’ve struggled, but I landed on my feet. Leah? Emily? They’re going … my heart breaks for them.”

“But, Jacob is getting his just desserts. He’s more than likely not going to have another day of freedom,” Emmett smirked evilly. “I wonder if he …”

“Jacob was an animal, but no one, no one, should have their choice taken away,” I snapped, glowering at him. “I know what it’s like and it’s a nightmare.” Tears welled in my eyes as I sat down heavily on the stool. I could feel the beginnings of a panic attack. Emmett crouched in front of me, taking my hands. He talked me through my calming techniques until I was able to breathe normally and the panicky feeling dissipated. I was grateful that I didn’t have to resort to taking my anti-anxiety medication. “Sorry about that. I … I’m still struggling with how to feel about Jacob’s conviction and eventual sentencing.”

“You should be overjoyed! Your abuser is getting what’s due to him!” Emmett exclaimed, dragging me into the family room. Bear hopped up onto the couch, curling to my side, recognizing my distress. I buried my fingers into his soft fur. “But, it makes sense that you’re struggling.”

“I’ve had several sessions with my therapist and I’m on the phone, nightly, with Caius,” I shrugged.

“You’ve become close to him,” Emmett smiled.

“My father, who died when I was in high school was irreplaceable, but Caius has stepped up to become a father-figure for me and adoptive grandfather to Seth,” I said, smiling gently. “He was so lonely before, but with us, he found a family.”

“We’ll happily take him. He’s an amazing man, with so much love to give,” Emmett agreed. “He even stepped up, taking a few shifts with Rose when I had to be at the café and Jasper was out with clients. The kids love Uncle Chaz.”

“Uncle Chaz?” I asked, arching a brow as I scrubbed behind Bear’s ears.

“Liam couldn’t say Caius,” Emmett snickered. “So, Chaz was adopted as Caius’s nickname. Caius said it made him feel ‘cool’. But, when we have the baby … it’ll be more of a gurgle or cry.” He gave me a wry smirk.

“I’ll bet you’ll be happy when the baby’s born,” I said.

“I’ll be happy when Rose is no longer in danger. When she goes in to give birth, she’s having her tubes tied since my vasectomy reversed itself,” Emmett sighed. “I love having a large family, but I love my wife more. I can’t lose her.” He looked at me, an adorable grin on his face. “Now, enough heavy. How are the wedding plans coming?” He picked up my left hand, wriggling my finger that my engagement ring sparkled on.

“This cannot be right,” I grumbled, reading the reports about the oxygen recyclers while in my quarters. I swiped on the tablet, putting more dates for more data. “No!”

“What is it, Bells?” Rosalie Hale asked. She blinked up at me, her hazel eyes swirling with concern. She was my best friend. Her hair was long and blonde, shimmering like liquid gold. Her body was slender, but sexy. She did not look like an engineer, a trained mechanic, her job on the Ark. She looked like a … what were they called? Oh, right, a supermodel from before the bombs. “You’ve got that look.”

“What look?” I asked.

“That look where you’ve got the furrow between your brows and you look like the world is about explode,” Rose snorted. She arched a perfectly sculpted brow. “Talk to me.”

“Take a look at these oxygenation levels across the Ark,” I said, pushing the tablet to Rose. “Not to mention the CO2 levels in engineering section.”

“These numbers are not good,” Rose muttered. “Have there been an increase of … what’s that called where you don’t get enough oxygen?”

“Hypoxia,” I answered absently. “When I’m on shift with Dr. Cullen or my mom, I haven’t seen any increased patients with hypoxia. But, I’ve been working in the lab with Alec. We’re working with farm station to improve fertilizers, increasing the yield of the crops.”

“Can you access the medical records? You are a doctor in training,” Rose said, scowling at the reports.

“I am, but I cannot access a patient’s records without their expressed consent and only while I’m working on them. The only people who have access to everyone’s medical records are my mother and Dr. Cullen because they’re in charge of the medical ward,” I explained. “Do you have any ideas why the numbers are so shitty?”

“The oxygen scrubbers are nearly a hundred years old, Bells,” Rose said. “They need massive repairs and overhauls, but we don’t have the means to fix them. We need to space walk in order to fix them, but the suits are falling into disrepair. The best suit has an oxygen supply of about an hour. The walk would take at least twenty times that length to repair the scrubbers. To put it simply, there are too many people on the Ark and the Ark is falling apart.”

“If you had the materials to repair the oxygen scrubbers and we increased our production of crops, could this be fixable?” I asked, biting my lower lip. “I mean, this is our home.”

“This place is a rust bucket that was on its last legs when the stations linked together on Unity Day,” Rose deadpanned. “We’ve been putting band aids on bullet holes. This place is hemorrhaging in broken systems. We don’t see it much here, but on the lower levels and in the prison ward? Environmental systems are working overtime to keep the corridors heated and artificial gravity functioning. It’s in those sections that … people are dealing with low oxygen in their systems. What is called again?”

“Hypoxia,” I frowned. “What can we do?”

“We don’t have to do anything. This is for your father and counsel to figure out,” Rose argued, swiping my tablet from my hands. “We have bigger fish to fry … like the Unity Day celebration with all of the council members and their families. I’ve been eager to lay my eyes on some fresh meat.”

“I thought you were with Tyler Crowley,” I said.

“We broke up,” Rose huffed. “I caught him with that skank, Jessica Stanley. If she didn’t have the birth control shot, she’d be pregnant a hundred times over. He was pounding into her like an animal, and she loved it.”

“Ewwww,” I shuddered, wrinkling my nose. “This is why I’m single and plan on staying that way.”
