Sitting in my cell, I idly sketched on the bulkhead. I stared out the tiny porthole at the glittering blue orb we’d been circling for seventy-five years. I hated that I was in this cell. I was only telling the truth and my own fucking father tossed me in here.
What the hell?
The rules on the Ark Station were so harsh. My age was the only reason why I wasn’t floated.
Floated? What is going on?
Oh, yeah, you all don’t know the whole story.
In the year, 2063, the world went to shit. Complete and utter shit. War was looming and the planet was on the brink of mutual annihilation. The Chinese were fighting with the United States. The European Union was aligned with the states, while the Middle East and Russia agreed with China. Several other countries vowed neutrality, but got caught in the mess.
We don’t know who fired first. But, long story short, on the evening of August 13th, all the nuclear bombs were launched, and the world became uninhabitable for human life.
The people on the surface, who were able to get to a bomb shelter, had a chance of survival. A slim chance, but a chance, nonetheless. It was all dependent on their survival skills and the ability to make their supplies last. If they had the means to replenish what they used, it was possible for them to survive the nuclear apocalypse. My father said that ‘Doomsday Preppers’ were the most likely to make it, but he said they were batshit crazy.
Our best chance of survival remained in orbit around our decimated little planet. When the bombs went off, there were thirteen stations circling Earth, conducting planetary research, or studying the stars. About a year after the bombs, the stations, with the exception of one, all joined to become one huge station. They needed to consolidate resources. So, the Ark Station was created.

November is one of my busiest months of the year, with my production of Little Women, District Honor Choir and parent/teacher conferences. Edward was quite persuasive.
Bella said yes.
They flew down to São Paulo to an all-inclusive couple’s resort, for six days and seven nights of tropical beauty and the promise of so much more.
Several days after they arrived, all international travel was cancelled due to a fast-moving, highly contagious pandemic.
What will happen with Edward and Bella while they are on their Destination Date? Will they be stronger upon their return to the states, or will their love survive?
“Ed, my main man, how are things going with the online dating thing?” asked Emmett. He was devouring his lunch, most of it dribbling onto his chin. “Any hotties?”
“Dude, I do not want to see your lunch as it’s digesting,” Edward snorted, tossing a napkin to his best friend and business partner. They owned several lucrative gyms, Twilight Fitness, in and around the Seattle area. Emmett was the body and Edward was the brains. Edward did have a ripped body, but nowhere near the caliber of Emmett, whose muscles had muscles. “How are you not six-hundred pounds?”
“I’ve got fucking great metabolism,” he said, tossing his garbage into the trash. “You done with that?” He pointed to Edward’s half-eaten sandwich.
“Have at it, Chunk,” Edward grumbled, rolling his eyes. “In regard to the online dating thing, I’ve met this really sweet girl.”
“Oh, give me details,” Emmett grinned.
I wrote a story for a fandom compilation, helping out one of our own. One of the reasons I adore this fandom is the feeling of family that encompasses us. We rally around our fandom friends and it’s downright amazing. Anyhow, I wanted to start sharing this story that I began writing for that compilation. Like Blockbuster, this is a true work-in-progress. I’m only eight chapters in, but I wanted to start posting this.

If you’d asked me how I pictured my future, this would not be it. I’ve come so far, but I was still … so …
I don’t know.
I had dreams. I had wishes. I had a future. I was happy. Then, my life imploded.
“Bella, this isn’t working,” Jake said to me coldly. He stared at me and glowered at the little boy, our three-year-old Seth, who was my world. He was born when I was eighteen and nowhere ready to be a mother. “You need to leave and take that with you.”
“Our son is not a ‘that’,” I snapped. “Jake, I don’t have anywhere to go. Give me a few months to get back on my feet, separate from you and then we’ll go.”
“No,” he sneered. “This hasn’t been working for year. It’s time to cut our losses and you need to be out by the end of the day.”
“I have to work, Jacob,” I said. “Can you be any more of an asshole?”
“I’m giving you a day,” he smirked. “I could have just thrown out your shit yesterday while you were working and while I was taking care of that boy.”
“That boy is your son,” I hissed.
“Is he, though?’ Jacob asked. “He looks a lot like Mike Newton. You’re such a slut, Bella.”
“I can’t believe this,” I whispered. “I can’t believe I ever loved you.”
Jacob knew I’d only ever been with him. Seth, our son, was conceived the first time we’d had sex and the condom had broken. Seth was the light of my life, where Jacob was the looming dark shadow.
“You better be gone by the time I come back from work. If you’re not, I’ll have you arrested for trespassing. You’d lose custody of Seth and he’d be raised by a proper family,” Jacob muttered. “Not by slut like you.” He picked up his keys, leaving the dingy apartment we’d shared.
It wasn’t even an apartment. It was a shack on his father’s property. It had a small kitchenette, a small living space and two tiny bedrooms. It barely had indoor plumbing. There was shower stall and a composting toilet. It was my responsibility to clean it every week.
Well, we didn’t share it anymore.
